Unilever Case Patrick Phillips

Unilever is a large global conglomerate that needed a little push to develop a sustainable management plan. With the initiative of one employee Jan-Kees Vis, Unilever was able to implement sustainable goals. Vis, who worked six years as a chemist for Unilever saw the need for sustainable implementations as it was not a core competency of Unilever. He was able to convince management, not only of the importance of sustainability but also the competitive advantages the company could gain from its implementation. He was able to create his own position within the company and helped Unilever to get on track to reach more sustainable goals. Not only did the incorporate sustainable resources into their supply chains and reduce Co2 emissions, the were also able to market to green consumers, a growing and well-performing consumer segment.
